Denktaş: “We do not delegate any authority to anyone in any way”

Serdar DenktasRegarding the law approved by the Assembly about the establishment of a coordination office of Turkey’s Youth and Sports Ministry in the TRNC, Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance Serdar Denktaş said: “As a Minister who signed the protocol, I can say that everyone should be sure that we do not delegate any authority to anyone in any way.”

The Minister stated that he believes that the statement “we are handing over our authority” is wrong, as the agreement will ensure that both the Youth and Sports Ministries of the TRNC and Turkey will be able to co-operate together and help implement new projects for the TRNC, many of which will be funded by Turkey.

Kerry: “We expect a progress to be achieved in the negotiations”

IJohn Kerryn his statement to the press, US Secretary of State John Kerry said that the US is working hard with both leaders in trying to bring peace to the island, and that he also expects progress to be achieved in the on-going negotiations between the two leaders.

Kerry also acknowledged that while there has been progress in some areas in the negotiations, there still remain some difficult hurdles to overcome.

Kerry reiterated that the US would work closely with both communities in assuring that issues of safety and the economy are addressed fairly during the negotiations. He also expressed his intentions to visit Cyprus in the not too distant future.
