New Round of intensified Talks starts today
A second round of the intensified negotiations aimed at finding a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem will start today.
The meeting between President Mustafa Akıncı and the Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades which will take place at the UN building reserved for negotiations in the buffer zone in Lefkoşa will start at 10am.
The two leaders will hold seven meetings before they will head off to New York in the second half of September within the framework of the UN General Assembly.
The main goal of the meetings scheduled to take part tomorrow, on the 29th and 31st of August as well as on the 2nd, 6th, 8th and 14th of September is to minimize divergences which were reduced during the intensified negotiations in July.
President Mustafa Akıncı during a statement following his Ankara visit last week said that the seven meetings scheduled in August and September would be a start of a new period.
He however added that it would be difficult to reach a solution in Cyprus if no result was obtained before the end of 2016.
