Expat NGOs agree to form a Working Party
By Chris Elliott……
Following on from a meeting on 7th September, when leading expatriate NGO representatives came to the OTEM Center, Girne to meet with Undersecretary Ismet Esenyel from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, a further meeting was held on Thursday 13th October 2016.
The purpose of these meetings was for the Ministry of Tourism and Environment to meet and make contact with representatives of English speaking NGOs to learn of the concerns and difficulties of expatriates living in Northern Cyprus and at this second meeting some additional members of these NGO groups came along to learn more of the progress and also contribute to the discussions.
These discussions were very fruitful and a number of issues were noted by Ismet Esenyel and the NGOs agreed to form a working group with one representative from each participating and this group would then endeavour to make contact with a number of other Ministries to offer help and support and also seek clarification of questions regarding current regulations as asked by their individual memberships.
This working group will comprise of the Anglo Turkish Association (ATA), The British Residents Society (BRS), The Foreign Residents in the TRNC (TFR), The Royal British Legion (RBL) with support and participation by cyprusscene.com.
This is an unrivalled opportunity for expatriates through their NGO’s working group to pull together and help the TRNC by asking for information that will be made available to all expatriates through the NGO’s and media and where possible also offering suggestions and perhaps expertise and skills that many would like to offer to help the TRNC.
