North Cyprus – The most successful Year-End Dinner of the TFR in the Opinion of the Guests

The most successful Year-End Dinner of the TFR

in the Opinion of the Guests

By Ralph Kratzer

I believe that I have participated in about 8 or 9 year-end dinners of the association The Foreign Residents in the TRNC (short TFR) since my membership in the club.

Some were good, others gave some cause to complain.

This year most of the guests agreed at the end of the event: This was the best dinner on the occasion of the festive ending of the year, the TFR ever had.

Once again, the Dinner party was held in the Deniz Kizi Hotel in Alsancak.

The Events Manager Pamela Tschersich, together with the Treasurer Horst Gutowski and the hotel management, had chosen a balanced 3-course menu, the decoration of the hall was festively and fondly arranged, even details like a fitting placing of the guests at the tables were carefully considered and planned.

After a welcome glass of sparkling wine, the numerous guests took their seats at the tables. The DJ of the evening, once again the fabulous Pete Murray, provided the audience from the beginning with a mixed selection of partly festive, partly timeless vibrant songs and therefore provided a positive mood amongst those present.

Local drinks were included in the price of the meal, perhaps also one of the reasons that the evening became increasingly sweeping and cheerful.

Lively conversations were held and after the tasty meal, many of the guests were no longer able to hold themselves back from entering the dance floor.

The raffle of many beautiful prizes, the cheery performance of Santa Claus (Horst Gutowski) and the comic sketch about the „12 days of Christmas“, performed by Beverly Westbrook and Paul Abel, further aroused the good mood among the guests.

Many comments of the participants of the event reached the organizers, some of them in writing. I would like to add these comments to this post. What can be better for those who have organized this dinner as a positive feedback and praise!

I would like to personally thank Pamela, Horst and all their volunteers. An additional thanks to the management of the Deniz Kizi Hotel and the service crew of the evening, which gave – from my opinion – no reason to complain. Well done!

Comments from guests of the event:

“Just a quick email to say ‘thank you’ for the tremendous effort you all put into the organisation of the end of year celebration.

It went off very well and everyone seemed to have a great time.

I am sorry but if anyone else was involved in helping – other than the 4 emailed above – please pass on my thanks as I don’t have any other email addresses.

Have a great Christmas,

Love Jill x” …….

“Dear Pam,

Thanks for the ‘Party night’ photo, and thanks too, for all you did to help make Saturday evening the best TFR End of Year Dinner yet!!! It was so good to see you dancing, bringing back so many happy memories of dancing all over the world….and still wondering about maybe having a knee op……sometime…..or have I left it too late?

Everything looked so beautiful from the time we walked into the hotel, the tables were lovely, the food hot and good, brilliant music and great to see everyone enjoying themselves so much. I’ve made some new and very interesting friends…and finally turned my bedroom light off at 4.45 am on Sunday!!! Enjoyed having an ice cream at the Karmi Coffee Bar, for the first time, with new TFR member Dutch Yvonne, too….all in all, an excellent couple of days. You were right, too, about the people on our ‘Ken & co. table no. 1’ being interesting.

I look forward to seeing you on Friday at Seapoint, and seeing some more of the many, many photos which were taken on Saturday evening.

Love to you both, Helen.”

About tfrsecretary

Born in Augsburg, Bavaria, Germany in 1957, I was educated at a Baccalaureate High School. Later completed Technical University with a degree in Economic Informatics. I served for 12 years in the German Army before joining a French computer company for another 10 years. Then ran my own motorcycle and gastronomy businesses before deciding to retire. I arrived in North Cyprus with my second wife in 2004 and since her sad loss in 2011, I have kept myself very busy trying to help others with similar problems and in 2012 became the Secretary of “The Foreign Residents in the TRNC” (TFR). I am very keen to see expat communities coming together and playing their part in helping North Cyprus, our adopted homeland.
